Job summary

As our first People Manager for the US you will be reporting to the CEO of the US operation with a dotted line to our Chief People Officer based in London. You’ll be working closely with our wider People team, heads of department, line managers and other colleagues across the global business to implement our People strategy.

You’ll add real value to our US business by managing the essential operational aspects of people management alongside providing advice and focusing on building a sustainable and high-performing culture. It’ll be your task to ensure our People processes are slick, support the business, and are in line with our values.

You’ll be leading the people agenda for our Atlanta and New York offices, helping us create and maintain a superb environment – you will also have the opportunity to support the business beyond the US. Going forward we will be operating a flexible approach to working with a remote first-hybrid philosophy. We’ll talk to you about the expectations for you in terms of your need to be in the office from time to time.

Your key responsibilities

Your Focus:

  • Delivering a professional People service, applying knowledge and good practice in a flexible way, balancing compliance with our values across the whole employment lifecycle.
  • Growing the business in line with business goals and effectively managing change.
  • Helping to build and maintain a quality working environment in the Atlanta and New York offices to support our culture and create an enviable employee experience, whilst ensuring that we have an inclusive approach to working from home that does not water down our culture.
  • Working in partnership with our global People Managers and CPO to ensure consistency of practice and high standards of delivery.
  • Partnering the CPO and People team to design and implement reward and benefits initiatives
  • Designing and developing a local wellbeing programme.
  • Supporting performance and talent management frameworks, including advising and training managers and helping create new approaches.
  • Partnering with Talent Acquisition to deliver the resource plan for your areas of the business, advising on job design, selection and assessment techniques to ensure standards are maintained and consistent with global recruitment efforts.
  • Leading onboarding and performance management. Maximizing the integration and success of new colleagues - supporting reviews and performance feedback conversations as necessary.

What you bring

Knowledge

  • International experience. If you have worked in Europe or Canada that would be a real bonus as we build out our international knowledge.
  • Scale-up experience would be really helpful.

Experience and qualifications

What’s Important:

  • SHRM or CIPD level qualification in HR (or equivalent).
  • A working knowledge of relevant US federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge and interpretation of EEO law and related regulatory requirements and guidelines.
  • Solid generalist HR experience including change management, employee relations, performance management, advising and coaching managers, and handling day to day people matters.
  • Knowledge of building and sustaining a great place for people to work and grow.
  • Wellbeing programmes and implementation experience.
  • Experience of US reward and benefits frameworks.
  • An understanding of assessment and selection methodologies.
  • An appreciation and experience of employer branding.
  • A commercial mindset – you can relate People activities to business goals.
  • Experience of implementing diversity / access programmes is an advantage.
