About Whippets

Smaller versions of the slender Greyhound, the Whippet is a gentle, intelligent and quiet animal that makes a wonderful and dignified house dog. Content to curl up and rest for most of the day, these medium-sized dogs are perfect companions for some warm sofa cuddling while the snow falls outside. But don’t be fooled by their love of slumber – the Whippet loves and needs regular exercise and can really motor. Reaching speeds of up to 35 mph, they cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time, so a back yard

is not enough.

Whippets were bred from Greyhounds that were deemed too small to hunt and subsequently given to peasants (this was a while ago, obviously). The poor things were maimed too, so that the peasants couldn’t use them to hunt and break the strict, Aristocracy-friendly Forest Laws. These maimed hounds were bred together, however, and the Whippet was born: a docile, speedy and sensitive animal perfect for chasing rabbits, hares and rats.

Why buy pet insurance for your Whippet?

Bred for working, hunting, coursing and racing, Whippets are well designed and generally healthy dogs, although their low body fat means that they need proper nutrition and exercise. Together with regular veterinary care, this means that your Whippet should live to be at least 12 to 13 years old. Pet insurance can help with the costs of vet treatment should your Whippet be affected by injury or illness.

Like another member, I've been quoted a large increase on last year's premiums but this was by phone. In your answer, you talk about members' discounts for renewing existing policies. How do I go about renewing through the Bought By Many site to find out what this discount will be, please?

Pet insurance renewal premiums

Hi, I am currently with Morethan but my renewal premium has gone up by 20% this yr. I got a new quote via this website and it is £150 cheaper. When I called them to discuss they said that I was more than welcome to cancel my current policy and start afresh with this new quote but that this new quote has an online disc built in which will come off next renewal (2015) - making my premium go up again? Do you know how much disc will be removed? My dog has an ongoing condition which will be excluded from the new policy so Im trying to decide if its worth taking up....if it goes up again next yr and I have to cancel and start from scratch again I may have even more exclusions - in the long run is it worth it?

Hi Joanne - Bought By Many members also receive the discount in every subsequent year they renew with More Than, not just in the first year. In terms of your dog's ongoing medical condition, it is normal practice for pet insurance companies to exclude existing conditions from new policies. Best wishes, Sam
