Pet Insurance for Cats

Join this group to demand fairer pet insurance for cats

  • About this Group

About this group

Other than fish, cats and dogs remain the most popular pets in the UK. In 2014, there were 7.9 million pet cats in the UK, which means 18% of households.

There are hundreds of different breeds of cats in the world, all with different looks and characteristics – from the regal Persian cats, to the silky British Shorthair and, of course all the different shapes and sizes of moggies. While cats can have a life expectancy into the late teens, they are not immune to illness, with cancer, heart and kidney problems and ear and eye issues being common complaints. Cats can also suffer from ongoing conditions such as diabetes.

In addition to the risk of disease, cats also encounter the risk of accident, whether in or out of the home.

Despite this, 69% of cats in the UK are not insured – this is compared to only 48% dogs (according to a report by Defaqto).

Some owners believe they can cover their cat’s vet fees by putting money aside each month, but with new advanced treatments available to vets these days, costs can be high. According to Tesco Pet Insurance, a tumour or growth costs on average £600 in vet fees, a wound can cost £341, respiratory disorder can set you back an average of £479 and a road traffic accident can be as much as £875.

Cats may be agile and, as the famous saying goes, always land on their feet, but even in safe domestic environments, their curious and inquisitive nature means accident can and will happen, as these unfortunate felines demonstrate. This is especially true of young cats, who are still learning about their environment, and cats who are allowed to go outside – into the dangerous world of cars and other animals.

By joining this group, you club together with other cat owners to get a great deal on your insurance with Homebase Pet Insurance. Benefits include up to £2,500 in vet fees cover, a £15 contribution towards getting your cat micro-chipped, a 10% multi-cat discount and no upper age limit.

Members of our pet insurance group get the added bonus a £15 Homebase voucher so you can buy your beloved furry friend some new treats – or treat yourself to gift, it’s your call!

Recruiting - What does this mean?

We're recruiting members so that the group has the "critical mass" needed for insurance companies to want to make a special offer available. Usually we set a target of 100 people. Members inviting their friends helps speed up the process.
