About this group
Perhaps due to their unusual and interesting shape, Dachshunds have inspired art works by some of the greatest artists of all time, including Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol.
Originally bred for hunting by German breeders, Dachshunds are also known as Sausage Dogs, or Weiner Dogs for those on the other side of the Atlantic. This variation on the name has led to possibly the most adorable picture on the internet, and the breed’s extreme fondness for digging has produced several amusing youtube videos.
Like other small dog breeds, Dachshunds require very strong leadership skills from their owner or they can get destructive. They can also be difficult to train and housebreak, but when handled correctly they are affectionate, brave, loyal and protective of their humans. Health issues can include spinal problems (particularly intervertebral disk disease – IVDD), patellar luxation, brittle bone disease, eye problems and hearing or vision loss.
By joining this group, you club together with other Dachshund owners to get the best deal to cover your pup in case of illness or injury, as well as for public liability issues. So, instead of worrying about insurance, you can concentrate on trying to beat this for cuteness (yes, we know there is already a link to this above, but it’s a tiny sausage dog in a bun. IN. A. BUN! Enough said).
