About this group

Dachshund, Dachshund Insurance

Perhaps due to their unusual and interesting shape, Dachshunds have inspired art works by some of the greatest artists of all time, including Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol.

Originally bred for hunting by German breeders, Dachshunds are also known as Sausage Dogs, or Weiner Dogs for those on the other side of the Atlantic. This variation on the name has led to possibly the most adorable picture on the internet, and the breed’s extreme fondness for digging has produced several amusing youtube videos.

Like other small dog breeds, Dachshunds require very strong leadership skills from their owner or they can get destructive. They can also be difficult to train and housebreak, but when handled correctly they are affectionate, brave, loyal and protective of their humans. Health issues can include spinal problems (particularly intervertebral disk disease – IVDD), patellar luxation, brittle bone disease, eye problems and hearing or vision loss.

By joining this group, you club together with other Dachshund owners to get the best deal to cover your pup in case of illness or injury, as well as for public liability issues. So, instead of worrying about insurance, you can concentrate on trying to beat this for cuteness (yes, we know there is already a link to this above, but it’s a tiny sausage dog in a bun. IN. A. BUN! Enough said).

Please could someone kindly help with my question. I've got a 6 year old mini smooth- who had 1 x spinal opp this year ( and 2 x pay outs by John Lewis ) My insurance is up for renewal soon-therefore I need an insurance company who will 1) take on existing conditions- and 2) pay out at least 5k or more limit. Does anyone know of any ? Many thanks Sarah.

Hi there Sarah, thanks for getting in touch. Unfortunately insurers do not provide cover for pets unless they have been symptom or treatment free for at least 2 years. We are working to negotiate and develop policies to help pet owners who have pets with ongoing conditions. It is possible to add your voice to our Pre-Existing Medical Conditions insurance group to strengthen our calls for new policy terms. Simply copy and paste this link into your browser (https://boughtbymany.com/offers/pre-existing-medical-conditions-pet-insurance/) and select 'Join the Group' in the top right hand corner. I hope that this helps and do get in touch with us if you need any further information or help.
