About this group
Gentle, docile and fiercely loyal, Basset Hounds make fantastic family pets, and are thought to be one of the best breeds for families with small children.
A descendant of the Bloodhound, the Basset Hound has an extraordinary sense of smell and, while fairly inactive indoors, might run off in chase of prey when outdoors. Basset Hounds are sometimes thought of as lazy, but actually need a lot of exercise and hate being left alone.
Although they are generally very well behaved dogs, they can prove to be stubborn when their owners fail to assert themselves as pack leaders, which we suspect would not have been difficult for some of the breed’s more famous past owners; Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Clint Eastwood and George Washington, to name but a few!
Health wise, they are prone to ear infections and mites, due to their long, floppy ears, which should be kept clean and dry at all times. They are also prone to eye infections and weight gain, so their diet and exercise should be carefully monitored.
We've already negotiated a special offer with MORE TH>N - so please join the group to find out more. And if you know other Basset Hound owners, why not invite them to join too? The bigger the group becomes, the stronger its collective buying power will be.
