Overview of the cover provided by Waggel
Waggel is a pet insurance provider that launched in December 2018. Its policies are underwritten by Red Sands Insurance Company (Europe) Ltd (the same company that underwrites Animal Friends) and they are based in London.
Waggel offers lifetime policy cover for cats and dogs only. Customers can choose annual vet fee coverage of: £2,000, £4,000, £6,000, £8,000 or £10,000.
Policies include £1,000 of cover for death alongside £2m for third-party liability as standard.
Within their annual coverage, Waggel do limit the maximum annual claim amount on specific treatments. This includes a £1,000 limit on complementary treatment, behavioural treatments, and dental treatment. There is a £2,000 limit for diagnostic scans.
Customers of Waggel can get free video consulations with a UK trained vet. The service can be accessed by downloading the FirstVet app. Customers can then video call a vet who, in addition to offering advice on treatments and symptoms, can also refer them to a local vet.
Waggel is the third pet insurer in the UK that is partnered with FirstVet. Both LV and Bought By Many also provide free video consultations with FirstVet.

How much does Waggel pet insurance cost?
As with all pet insurance policies, the price you pay will vary widely depending on factors like the age and breed of your pet, and which part of the UK you live in.

Pet Policy Excess
Customers can choose the amount of excess they wish to pay which can lower monthly premium prices. This includes an option of: £50, £100, £250 and £500.
Compulsory excess increases at the age of 8 for dogs and 10 for cats. A Co-payment of 20% will be applied once a cat or dog reaches these ages.
Are pre-existing conditions covered?
Waggel does cover pre-existing conditions but there are exclusions you should be aware of.
A pre-existing condition is covered as long as a pet hasn’t received treatment, medication or advice from a vet for the condition within the last 3 months. Or, hasn’t been to a vet more than 3 times in the last 24 months for the condition.
Waggel do not cover chronic or congenital conditions. When applying for a policy with pre-exisiting conditions, customers will need to confirm that the condition they want to include, is not on Waggel's list of chronic or congenital conditions that are excluded.
Are promotional codes and discounts available for Waggel?
Waggel provide awards and discounts from its pet brand partners: Butternut Box, Scrumbles, Beco, Rockstar, and Benyfit.
How to make a claim with Waggel
To make a claim, customers need to log into their account before selecting claim and answering the specific questions promoted on the screen. They should download and complete their claims forms from www.waggel.co.uk and either email it to firstname.lastname@example.org or post it to WeWork, 131 Finsbury Pavement, EC2A 1NT, London.
Once each customer has filled out their details, the claim will be sent to their chosen vet that performed the treatment. The vet will then need to complete their section and provide all relevant details. Once this has been completed, the claim will then be processed by Waggel.
Customers can track the progress of their claim in real time by using the WaggelApp. Once a claim has been processed, Waggel will pay a vet directly. If this isn't possible the payment can be made to policy holders. They will only pay one party for the amount claimed.
