Overview of the pet insurance provided by Perfect Pet

Perfect Pet insurance offers eight varitions of its cover in total, including:

  • Elite Extra

This is a Lifetime policy that provides vet fees cover of up to £4,000. It also provides £2.5m public liability, death cover of £1,000, and theft and straying cover of £1,000.

There is also an Elite policy that offers slightly lower cover levels, with its vet fees limit at £1,000, £1.5m public liability, and £500 cover for death, theft and straying.

  • Vital Extra

This is a Max Benefit, also known as Per Condition, policy. It provides vet fees cover of up to £4,000, £1.5m in public liability, and £750 cover for death and theft and straying.

There is also a Vital policy that offers lower levels of cover, providing £1,000 in vet fees, £1m in public liability and £500 for death and theft and straying.

  • Essential Extra

This is a Time Limited policy that offers £2,500 in vet fees cover, £1.5m in public liability cover, £500 for death and £500 for theft and straying.

Much like the other two policies, there is also an Essential version that offers £1,000 vet fees cover, £1m public liability, £250 death cover and £250 theft and straying cover.

  • Public Liability Only

This policy is designed to only pay out if your dog damages another person's property or injures them. It provides £1m in public liability cover, and nothing else.

This means it will not pay out if your dog is injured, becomes ill, or is lost or stolen. As such, it is usually the cheapest policy Perfect Pet offers.

  • Accident Only

As the name suggests, this policy will only pay out if your pet is involved in an accident. It will pay out up to £1,000.

This means if your pet becomes ill, or damages another person or their property, this policy will not pay out. It is one of the cheaper policies Perfect Pet offers.

It should be noted that Perfect's Pet cover levels are relatively low compared with companies in our list of the best pet insurers.

And many other companies list their Lifetime policies as their most comprehensive but Perfect Pet's Vital Extra Maximum Benefit policy is its most expensive.

All excess levels are set at £90, apart from public liability, which is set at £250.

For more information on what the different types of policies are, check out our Pet Insurance FAQs.

All of Perfect Pet's policies except Public Liability Only and Accident Only provide cover for advertising and reward in case your pet is lost, as well as emergency boarding fees and holiday cover.

Perfect Pet will insure dogs of any age although after a certain age it will not pay out for things like death from illness. There is a 15% co-payment that kicks in when dogs reach 8 years old or if you have a cat that is 10 or over.

Are there any exclusions with Perfect Pet insurance?

As with most pet insurance policies, there is a grace period with Perfect Pet's insurance. In the first 14 days after taking out a policy you will not be able to claim for any illness or injury, and you won't be able to claim for an accident in the first five days.

Perfect Pets does not provide any cover for pre-existing conditions. This includes any condition your pet suffered from before the policy was taken out.

If your dog is over the age of 8, you will not be able to claim on the death cover part of the policy if your pet dies. The same applies to cats over the age of 10.

The policy will not pay out for any routine treatment, or if your pet dies due to pregnancy or giving birth.

Your pet must be over the age of 4 weeks to be insured by Perfect Pet. It also will not insure any working dogs or dogs trained to work, including dogs that live in premises that serve alcohol.

How much does pet insurance from Perfect Pet cost?

Perfect Pets says its insurance starts from £2.93 per month. This figure is based on a small mongrel on its Accident Only policy in an Inverness postcode.

In reality, your pet insurance policy may cost more than this depending on a range of factors, including your pet's breed, its age, where you live and which policy you choose.
