Overview of the cover provided by John Lewis Finance Pet Insurance policies
John Lewis is a British institution. Founded in 1864, the department store is well-known and widely respected, and the retailer now offers financial services, including home, pet and car insurance.
The most distinctive feature of John Lewis Finance's pet insurance policies is that all three of its levels of cover are "lifetime" policies. This means they continue to pay out even if a pet's medical condition lasts for a number of years (John Lewis Finance calls this "long term cover"). By contrast, many cheaper, more basic pet insurance policies will only pay out for 12 months.
As a result, deciding between the three policies – Essential, Plus and Premier – mainly boils down to how much vet bills cover you want for your pet - £3,000 per year with Essential, £7,500 a year with Plus, or £12,000 a year with Premier.
If you're not sure how much cover is appropriate, your vet will be able to give you a view on what the likely costs of treatment for a pet like yours would be.
Other features of the policies include dental care, accidental damage cover, cover for death from accident or illness, third party public liability cover (for dogs only) and cover for complementary therapies. As you would expect, the amount of this cover is higher for the more expensive and highly-rated Plus and Premier policies.
John Lewis Finance might be able to offer a multi-pet discount of 5% if you are insuring more than one pet.

Does Buster the Boxer have John Lewis Finance Pet Insurance?
John Lewis are famous for their Christmas adverts. John Lewis' Christmas Advert in 2017 starred Moz the monster (who'd frankly struggle to get insurance), but the big star was Buster the Boxer the internet trampolining sensation, who featured in the 2016 Christmas advert. But was he insured?
Assuming Buster was 3 years old, neutered, and that his humans lived in South London, the cost of John Lewis Pet Insurance for Buster based on today's prices in March 2019 are:
Essential: £66 per month Classic: £103 per month Premier: £123 per month
(It's worth noting that Boxers are one of the most expensive breeds to insure.)
If Buster had hurt himself on the trampoline, it's possible that RSA (John Lewis Pet Insurance's underwriters) might have contested the claim under the following clause in the policy wording: "You must also provide proper care and attention to your pet at all times and take all reasonable precautions to prevent accidents, injury or damage."
