Review: AllClear Travel Insurance

Ronny Lavie By Ronny Lavie 20th September 2017

AllClear Insurance specialises in providing cover for people with existing medical conditions who may find it difficult getting affordable insurance elsewhere.

It compares quotes from companies that offer cover for people with medical issues and provides its own policies. It also offers separate cruise, life and home insurance.

Click the link to find out whether AllClear Insurance made it into our list of Top 10 providers of Travel Insurance with Medical conditions or check out our group for travel insurance for cancer patients.

AllClear offers cover in Ireland and Australia but this is a review of its offer in the UK.

An overview of cover provided by AllClear Travel Insurance

AllClear specialises in travel insurance for most pre-existing medical conditions. There is no upper age limit for annual or single trip policies. It can be harder for people over 65 or 70 to get a quote from some other travel insurance companies.

It can offer cover for most destinations (other than those the Foreign & Commonwealth Office advises against travelling to).

We've written a guide for people travelling to countries that are considered dangerous.

AllClear Insurance works like a broker – it scans a range of insurers, based on the customer’s quote information, and then lists the best options for the specific circumstances.

You will have to disclose any medical conditions during the quote process. It asks around 10 questions about your condition, which is fewer than some travel insurance medical questionnaires.

However, it cannot quote online for all conditions so after answering the questions, when you'd expect to see a quote, you may be told to call its customer service team to see if they can give you a quote.

In addition to listing policies from other providers, it also offers its own:

AllClear Gold includes £10m medical expenses cover (excess £250), up to £2,000 for baggage (excess £75) and £2,000 cancellation cover (excess £250).

AllClear Gold Plus includes £15m medical expenses cover (excess £150), up to £2,500 for baggage (excess £75) and £5,000 cancellation cover (excess £150).

Both policies have a valuables limit of £250 but it does offer three gadget travel policies, the top level has a limit of £3,000.

AllClear also offers cheaper versions of both policies that exclude cancellation cover.

It has a policy called Traveller that is for people aged between 17 and 85 (the age limit for multi-trip is 75). It offers £10m of medical cover, £3,000 for cancellation and up to £1,000 for baggage. It also offers longer single trip lengths.

Along with its gadget add-on, it also offers travel disruption, an excess waiver, waiting list cover, travelling companion cover, airline failure, winter sports and golf cover as optional extras.

Gold and Gold Plus available as either a single trip or annual multi-trip policy (max trip length 45 days).

All customers are given access to a UK-based customer service call centre.

You can get a quote on its website or by calling its telephone number 01708 339295.

How much does AllClear Holiday Insurance cost?

The price of travel insurance is affected by many factors, such as the destination, the length of the holiday, the age of the person travelling and whether they have a medical condition.

Those with medical conditions may find prices are much higher than for standard policies.

However, AllClear is known for providing affordable quotes, even for complex situations. One customer reported she was quoted £211 for annual multi-trip cover to Europe for a family of five, despite the fact she’s had cancer twice. Single trip cover would have been £69.

What do AllClear Travel Insurance reviews from the experts say?

Defaqto – the independent reviewer of financial products – gave AllClear’s Gold, Gold Plus and Traveller policies 3 out of 5 stars, making them "standard products providing an average level of features and benefits".

It is important to remember that, in addition to their own policies, AllClear specialise in comparing cover from a variety of providers, such as Flexicover and Avanti, which have their own ratings and levels of cover.

"Lots of choices which were easily to understand what the policy did or did not cover."
