Job summary

Help us build the Global Insurance Platform of the future!

We are looking for a Product Manager with a strong background in data technologies to help the broader product organisation execute our ambitious growth goals. This role will be a pivotal part of our continued success and will be a crucial enabler for our growth in the UK, Sweden, the US and beyond.

You will lead the Data Team, a global platform team at the core of our insurance platform and a key enabler for our future growth and innovation. A crucial element of our future growth is a best-in-class use of data. You will take the lead in defining goals for data that align with the broader direction of the company and product visions. You will help us balance the strategy, governance, and implementation of anything data-related, and facilitate the conversations between all impacted stakeholders — executives, engineers, analysts, other product teams, and external customers — who consume the data.

Your key responsibilities

  • Identify market opportunities within and outside the product and drive the product vision and business strategy.
  • Research and validate your assumptions with customers in mind, running experiments and analysing the results.
  • Ensure viable and visible delivery while providing the best experience for our customers.
  • Create requirements, determine the design work, write and prioritise user-stories, and manage your team as a start-up within a start-up.
  • Empower your cross-functional product squad in both product discovery and delivery work, support the development of the Product Management practice across Bought By Many.
  • Develop a deep understanding of your product area, making and communicating effective trade-offs between customer, business and technology concerns. Act as a thought-leader to advance the state of the art of insurance-focused software.
  • Build excellent working relationships with all parts of the business and most specifically with the key stakeholders of your product area.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of our insurance products, technologies, and business.
  • Measure every change as a requirement in delivery rather than after-thought gathering post-launch client feedback and quickly capture learnings to adapt the product.
  • Invest in systems, and processes alongside your team members to create world-class best practices.
  • Be responsible for the success metrics of the product and organising the squad and wider business around them.

Specifically as our Global Platform Product Manager for Data:

  • Manage and evolve our use of data – ensuring it is highly leveraged and engaging with the data team to shape solutions.
  • Work to champion data literacy within the organisation and drive adoption rates while also bridging gaps between departments and getting buy-in for data initiatives. Improving how data is created and provisioned for analytics.
  • Building both short- and long-term strategies, such as defining key metrics to track success or determining the prioritization of features that fall within their scope.
  • Responsible for translating the requirements of large data initiatives into smaller, actionable pieces that can be delivered in increments and then working to allocate resources for each initiative.
  • Work closely with the Squad and with the broader collective of Global Platform squads to build and deliver the strategic direction of our global platform.

How you’re measured

  • Achievement of related financial and quality metrics.
  • Timely delivery of agreed Objectives and Key Results.
  • As a Global Platform Product Manager for Data:
    - The speed and stability of change to our data estate.

What you bring

Knowledge

  • Strong product management experience from any sector.
  • Experienced in understanding stakeholder goals and turning them into successful products.
  • Deep knowledge of Agile software delivery and API development and support.
  • Able to articulate the value of a data platform in a commercial way.
  • Self-driven and energised to keep up with a diverse set of stakeholders and can speak their language.
  • Passionate about getting into the detail and solving problems but can also step back and communicate the bigger picture.
  • Previous experience working on Big Data / AI / Data science is preferable.
  • Technically competent to influence and understand the data solution context & approach and aid engineering in estimating the complexity of work being requested.
  • Knowledge of recent developments in the data and tech industries that could be relevant to Bought By Many’s offering.

Skills and personal attributes

  • Highly proactive, persuasive leader, who can successfully communicate objectives and manage expectations.
  • Coaching leadership style - knows how to inspire exceptional effort with individuals and teams through engagement and empowerment in order to achieve results.

  • Strong written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Commercially astute and can recognise the meaning of “value” to Bought By Many and our customers to grow the business.
  • Integrity: earns the respect of peers, staff and clients.
  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced, fluid environment and juggling multiple pieces of work simultaneously.
  • Has tolerance for a start-up environment where a pragmatic, and sometimes ‘scrappy’, approach is required, rather than a perfectionist approach.

  • Hands on experience as an engineer or data scientist.
  • Ideally a computer science degree or equivalent.
  • Commercial experience in product development and building and specifying Web-based business applications, preferably with a good grasp of data systems and/or financial services.

  • Aptitude for understanding, digesting, and analysing complex systems integration.
  • Excellent communications skills, both oral and written. Must be able to communicate effectively and confidently with users, team members and management.
